Mrs. Miller
is a teacher certified in elementary education with
a specialty in reading. She taught 2nd
grade in Klein ISD prior to teaching Kindergarten
Enrichment at the Lamb School. After teaching her
son to read at age 3, Mrs. Miller began offering
Head Start to Reading as a class in the Summer of
2000 and has been teaching it year round ever
since! In addition to her regular teaching
experience, she has worked with children in many
ways: Pre-School and Jr. High Sunday School
teacher, elementary Praise Team Leader, elementary
cheer coach, and Bible Study leader. She and her
husband have 2 children: Derek, 18 and Karlee, 16.

Mrs. Polasek
was born in Michigan but has lived in Houston since
1990. She is a busy mom blessed with 4 wonderful
children, and after marrying her husband Jeff in
2006, was blessed again with 2 step children. Mrs.
Polasek has been a part of the Head Start to Reading
family since September of 2003. Prior to that, she
taught for 7 years at The Lamb School. In her spare
time, she enjoys reading, scrap booking, and
watching her kids play a variety of sports. She
loves being in the classroom teaching children how
FUN reading can be! |

Mrs. Norris’
love for teaching began when she became a
Para-Educator in a resource class 13 years ago.
There she taught the Edmark reading program and
Handwriting Without Tears. She is currently working
in Life Skills at Owens Elementary assisting
students with special needs in the classroom. She
also tutors children after school and throughout the
summer. She is thrilled to be a part of the
children’s progress as they become successful in
learning! Mrs. Norris has been married to her
husband David for
26 years. She
is the mother of a stepdaughter who lives with her
husband and 3 children in Mexico on a missionary
assignment, a daughter who recently graduated from
A&M now living and teaching in Durango Co., and a
son at Blinn College majoring in Communication.
Mrs. Norris has been a teacher with Head Start to Reading
since the Summer of 2007! |

Mrs. McMurry is the voice of Head
Start to Reading and is probably the person you
speak with each time you call! She was born in
Kentucky and moved to Houston in 1993. She attended
the University of Louisville before she married her
husband Eric. She has loved being a stay-at-home
mom to her three wonderful sons Evan, Colin, and
Sean. Her oldest, Evan, is a Junior at Texas A&M University. She
enjoys volunteering at her children’s schools,
teaching high school Sunday School, and walking her
beloved Jack Russell Terrier, Dixie. Mrs. McMurry
has been a part of the Head Start to Reading program
since the Spring of 2006.

Mrs. Peiffer
is a native Houstonian and a graduate of Cypress
Creek HS. She has a degree
in History from Texas A&M University and a Master’s
degree in Reading from Prairie View A&M University.
She spent eight years teaching reading in Cy-Fair ISD at the middle school
level. She has been married for 17 years to her
husband Todd and has an 9 year-old son and a 6
year-old daughter who went through the Head Start to
Reading program. Mrs. Peiffer has volunteered
eleven years with Children’s Ministries at Foundry
UMC. While staying home with her children, she has
become more active in working with preschoolers and
elementary-aged children in various activities.
Mrs. Peiffer LOVES to read and hopes to encourage
the same in her students! Mrs. Peiffer has been
with Head Start to Reading since the Summer of 2010
and is currently a reading intervention teacher in
Cy-Fair ISD. |

Mrs. Holmes
is a
teacher certified in Elementary Education, English
as a Second Language, and Language Arts and Reading.
She also has specialty training in Reading Recovery,
a reading program designed specifically for
struggling first grade students. She taught at
Amarillo ISD for four years prior to moving to
Houston in 2007. Since then, she has done tutoring
both privately and for learning centers. Mrs. Holmes
enjoys working alongside her youth minister-husband
in their church’s youth department. One of the
highlights of her week is teaching her 7th
through 9th grade girls’ small group on
Sunday mornings. Mrs. Holmes is currently blessed to
stay home with her 5-year-old son and 3-year-old
daughter, who keep her teaching and learning every
minute of the day. She has been with Head
Start to Reading since the summer of 2011.

Mrs. Crowe
grew up in Houston and after going to college at
Abilene Christian University came back to teach in
Cy-Fair ISD. She taught 1st grade for 5
years, 2nd grade for 2 years, and enjoys
teaching children to become life-long lovers of
reading. She is certified in early childhood
through 4th grade education, ESL, and is
a trained GT and dyslexia teacher. In 2007 she
married her husband Loren and now loves being a
stay-at-home mom to their daughter Olivia. Mrs.
Crowe enjoys being involved in her church,
scrap-booking, playing with her dogs, reading, and
baking.
